RMF 36 Taalasma vs Lessard

Hi, this is my first writeup for this blog, and it is the late prview for RMF 36 Taalasma vs Lessard.

Here it goes.

LW Superfight – Main event: Junior "toivotaan, toivotaan" Lessard (9-0, Fire FC champion) vs. Seppo "Suppo" Taalasmaa (15-3, RMF champion)

In what promises to be one of the biggest matches in RMF history, the deadly KO machine and the lightweight Fire FC champion Juinor Lessard steps into the cage with RMF’s own lightweight champion Seppo Taalasmaa. On paper there is no secret what the game plans for the two champions are, Lessard wants to stay on his feet, and use his superior striking and clinch grappling to his advantage, the black Belt Taalasmaa however, clearly wants the fight down to the ground and fast, as most of his victories have come by submission, and with his wrestling pedigree, he will surely use his striking to set up a takedown. But if he strikes for too long with Lessard, his chin might not hold to the test, as his record shows, he has been knocked out before, so look for him to score a takedown in any way he can. Predicted’s prediction: Experts in their own right, the two champions are battle tested and approved, this is surely Lessard’s greatest challenge as he has never taken on a submission fighter of Taalasmaa’s caliber in his career, and this will be his downfall as he loses by submission.

LW – Co main event: Numero Nueve (6-1, 3-1 RMF) vs. Johan Herberg (7-2-1, 0-0-1 RMF)

These two fighters are almost identical, and while Herberg has slightly better standup, he will probably not use his striking as a tool to victory, as every second he pretends to be a striker is an opportunity for fellow brown belt Nueve to get a takedown, as they are both well versed in the grappling arts whoever keeps top control will most likely win this fight by decision or a late round submission, and as they both have an equal wrestling pedigree on paper, it’s close to impossible to find a favorite in this one. Predicted’s prediction: It’s close to impossible to call a winner in this match, but Herberg’s focus on ground and pound might give him the nod in this one.

MW: Jose "The Boa" Lopez (11-7, 7-4 RMF) vs. Billy "Trickster" Whitewash (7-5, 6-5 RMF)

Coming off a devastating knockout loss, the former middleweight champion Jose Lopez seems to have the upper hand against fellow submission specialist Billy Whitewash. Not only does he have more submission victories, but he has a much stronger wrestling base and is equally adept at striking as in the grappling arts, he can control the pace and where the fight takes place, and this will surely be one of his keys to victory tonight. For Whitewash this is the biggest test of his career, and if he is victories in this one, he will become one of the top fighters in RMF and surely only a few fights away from a title shot. Predicted’s prediction: Lopez seems to have all the tools he needsto finish this fight, either by submission, a knockout or a decision.

LHW: Serguei "Russian Rocket" Shirokov (7-2, RMF debut) vs. "The Divine Destroyer" Lewis Creed (5-0, RMF debut)

Undefeated in RMF challengers, Lewis Creed is given the biggest fight of his career as he steps in the cage with fellow striker, Serguei Shirokov. On paper they both have devastating knockout power, but Shirokov’s record shows that he does not have the strongest of chins, and even if he comes in with the advantage on paper, Creed will surely look to hit one of his devastating knockout power to end the fight quickly. But Creed is used to fighting world class boxers, and even if he can’t stand toe to toe with you, he can clinch up and beat you up there. Predicted’s prediction: This is a huge test for Creed, and he will most likely try to beat up his opponent in the clinch, but with his superior striking and devastating power Shirokov will most likely win this fight, either by decision or TKO.

LW: Taz "Manian" Devil (6-4-1, 3-2-1 RMF) vs. Anthony "Tony" Almeida (6-5, 2-3 RMF)

In Almeida’s first RMF fight, he suffered a devastating knockout by the hands of Taz Devil, he is now given the chance at revenge, as the two strikers clash a second time. Having ended all his victories by first round knockouts, one touch is enough for Devil to end the fight. For Almeida the game plan is simple, get the takedown ASAP and get a submission. This might be difficult as Devil’s defensive BJJ is on par with Almeida’s offense and his best hope will surely be to keep top control and win by decision. Predicted’s prediction: Devil’s hands have already been proven to connect well with Almeida’s chin, and it looks like it we will be experiencing a little Déjà vu in this fight when Devil KO’s Almeida.

MW: Hella Alapaa (11-7, 2-2 RMF) vs. "The Helsinki Devil" Teuvo Loman (11-4, 0-1 RMF)

Being primarily a striker, Teuvo Loman looks like he is in trouble here as Hella Alapaa possesses powerful takedowns and vicious ground and pound, and when unleashed these tools have provided him with great success in the past. Alapaa on the other hand possesses KO power in his hands and if he is allowed to, could knock Loman out. Predicted’s prediction: Loman is simply too well rounded, and will most likely take his opponent down and grind him to a pulp scoring a TKO victory.

MW: Pietro "Renegade" Falasco (3-0, RMF debut) vs. Roman "Czar" Sadlovsky (4-2, 0-1 RMF)

Having ended all his victories by his devastating high kick, Sadlovsky has proven he has serious KO power, and will try to use it to end Pietro Falasco’s undefeated record. Falasco is primarily a boxer and having ended all his fights within the first round, he is not an opponent to take lightly. Predicted’s prediction: As Falasco steps up in competition this will probably be the fight where his winning streak ends as Sadlovsky’s Muay Thai is on another level, and with his excellent head kicks he will probably end this fight in a bang.

HW: Marco Van Hannegem (5-3, 0-1 RMF) vs. Neik Hammerlik (8-5, 3-3 RMF)

Being a striker with a glass jaw, Neik Hammerlik needs to fight smart if he is to end his three fight losing streak against world class striker Marco Von Hannegem. The clinch will surely be his most important tool as Von Hannegem haven’t trained too much in Muay Thai and can really be bullied around by a decent clinch fighter. But if Hannegem gets to work his punches, the fight could end in a second, so look for Hammerlik to desperately look to avoid trading punches. Predicted’s prediction: With his superior wrestling and Muay Thai background Hammerlik will surely grind out a decision in this fight.

LHW: Tully "The Organ Grinder" Sisyphus (4-2, 3-2 RMF) vs. Ricardo "Anaconda" Nogueira (5-1, 0-1 RMF)

In his last fight, Sisyphus showed his ability to use his well rounded skills to keep the fight where his opponent is weakest when he decimated Stefan Borsch in the clinch, and he will probably do the same tonight as he battles BJJ brown belt Ricardo Nogueira. Nogueira being a submission fighter only has one game plan, get a takedown and score a submission, and against the blue belt Sisyphus, it looks like it comes down to getting the takedown. Predicted’s prediction: Nogueira’s wrestling and BJJ will simply overwhelm Sisyphus, and he will win by first round submission.

MW: Bobby "bejesus" Lennox (8-8, 8-8 RMF) vs. Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat (7-4, 4-3 RMF)

In the opening bout, two fighters with questionable with questionable chins face off to fight to revive their careers. Lennox who is a well rounded fighter, does surely not want to suffer one of Steamboat’s high kicks and will most likely try to get the fight to the ground as fast as possible. Steamboat will most likely try to hit one of his high kicks before that happens as he will only be able to hang on if taken down. Predicted’s prediction: Lennox’ seem to have the upper hand, but all is in the open as Steamboat could easily knock him out, but Lennox will most likely add a second submission loss to Steamboat’s record.
