VFC 70: Schilt v. Smith

Hello again, my name is Jack Walian AKA Predicted and I’m here to give you a Preview of the upcoming megacard VFC 70: Schilt v. Smith accompanied by my as always, spot on predictions.

LHW title fight – Main event: "KO Machine" Gilbert Schilt (15-4, 4-0 VFC) vs. Peter Smith (9-2, 3-0 VFC)

KO Machine is a nickname Gilbert Chilt has earned with blood sweat and hard work, having ended most of his fights in the first round, Schilt is a battle tested veteran who just recently joined VFC and in his four fights under the Vicious banner he has plowed through the best light heavyweights VFC has to offer knocking out everyone VFC has put in front of him, but in this bout he will embark on the biggest test of his life, as he takes on the crusher of jaws and breaker of dreams , Peter Smith. Smith has dynamite in his hands proven by his 100% knockout ratio and if that wasn’t enough, experts claim his chin is reinforced by platinum making him scientifically impossible to knock out. While Schilt has excellent boxing and knockout power, his opponent Smith is widely recognized as one of the best strikers in the world and has never been phased by strikers considered to be on Schilt’s level before in his career, and as his record shows Shilt does not have the best chin having been knocked out three times prior to this fight he must fight smart to avoid getting knocked out. Predicted’s prediction: Peter Smith seems to have all the tools to finish this fight, he has never been knocked out, and judging by his competition that’s a feat in itself, but with all his victories coming by early knockouts, it seems that the current champion Schilt will be added to Smith’s growing list of victims.

HW title fight – Co main event: David "Shark Attack" Repetto (12-1, 3-0 VFC) vs. "The Devil" Ernesti Vihervaara (8-0, 4-0 VFC)

After the loss in his professional debut, David Repetto has been on a roll and is now on a twelve fight winning streak, mostly attributed to his top level boxing and ability to always come forwards, the current champion is deadly when allowed to stay in striking range, as he has the power to knock out with one punch. But Ernesti Vihervaara has fought Repetto’s kind before, and it has always ended badly for his opponents as he showed in his last fight against the former title contender Totoy Bato, where Vihervaara showed his class as he took Bato out of his element and into a clinching battle, where he landed elbows and knees at will. And if there is one place Repetto does not want to be with Vihervaara it’s in the clinch, where he will surely be dominated. The solution is tricky as Vihervaara could probably take a car to the face and still tell the cops what happened in the aftermath, he is no easy man to finish, and one could argue he has the skills to be the new Jigoro Kane, if he will be remains to be seen, but the up and coming twenty-one year old is only at the verge of his career and a win over an opponent of Repetto’s caliber should cement him as one of the top pound for pound fighters in the world. Predicted’s prediction: With such a wide variety of weapons at his disposal, in my mind it is not a question of it, it’s a question of how Vihervaara will win. My tip is by cut or decision.

MW: Pentti "V" Pena (14-4, 3-2 VFC) vs. "the mat" mathew maynard (8-3, 6-3 VFC)

It will be interesting to see where this fight takes place, as both fighters are well rounded and similar athletes with knockouts and submissions on their consciousness, they have certainly proven they are no novices when standing, nor on the ground. But where Pena holds a slight advantage in his BJJ, Maynard has an ever-so small advantage in his wrestling, and might prove a difficult man to take down unless he wants the fight down himself. Standing they both have KO’s on their record, but neither fighter has the strongest of chins, and it will be interesting to see if either fighter wants to stand with the other seeing as they both have KO power and look almost identical on paper in the standing position. Predicted’s prediction: It’s hard to pick a winner, but I think we will see a ground battle in this fight, who will win is a though call however, Maynard recently beat a BJJ black belt in a ground fight, so he has proven he can hang with the best, but it looks like Pena might get the nod from the judges tonight.

LW: "Sir" Samuel King (7-3, 6-3 VFC) vs. Neville "The Devil" Champman (10-4, 10-4 VFC)

Being a true jack of all trades, the former VFC champion Neville Champman is usually able to take his opponents out of their comfort zones and use his wide variety of skills to grind out decisions, and with his BJJ and wrestling advantage on Samuel King he might have it easy in their upcoming fight, as he should be able to take the fight down where he should be able to keep the top position for most of the fight. If he stands and trades with King however, this fight might turn out differently, King is able to knock his opponents out, and claims quite an advantage when it comes to striking, and if Champman waits too long with the shoot, he might be surprised by one of King’s big hands. Predicted’s prediction: Champman should be able to take the fight down and grind out his eleventh career decision in this bout.

HW: "Ninja" Kyle Newheart (10-4, 1-0 VFC) vs. Mark "The Braveheart" David (10-5, 3-2 VFC)

Mark David is quite a paradox as he enjoys slugfests, and sports dangerous knockout power as his record shows, all his wins has come by knockout. But he has a weak chin, something Kyle Newheart might look to take advantage of with his ever improving striking skills, but Newheart himself has a problem when getting punched in the face, his face gets cut way to easily, he even lost his AFC belt due to a cut, and will probably look to finish this fight on the ground like he usually does. Predicted’s prediction: If David is able to utilize his wrestling advantage for long enough to hit Newheart in the face a couple of times, he will most likely add another first round (T)KO to his record.

Under card:

LHW: Sonny Boy (11-4, 1-2 VFC) vs. Kileki Kawike (11-5, 3.1 VFC)

WW: mr brown (9-5-1, 2-2 VFC) vs. Jake Redd (12-5, 6-3 VFC)

MW: Jonas Galdikas (4-0, 4-0 VFC) vs. Tomi Rajala (12-5, 3-1 VFC)

WW: Rabban Harkonnen (5-1, 2-0 VFC) vs. Tugg Speedman (5-1, VFC debut)

LW: Reima Maansiirto (10-6, 1-3 VFC) vs. Vic Rains (4-4, 4-4 VFC)
