BFE 39: TUM Round 2.2 preview.

Hello again, my name is Jack Walian AKA predicted with Blitzkrieg Unleashed, and this is the second edition of my preview of the second round in biggest tournament in MMATycoon history, The Ultimate Manager II. In the last round we saw sixty-four bantamweights turn into thirty-two, and this weekend they wage war to earn a spot among the finals sixteen.

Onni "Rude Boy" Jokinen vs. Hoshi Hotaru

Being one of the few Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioners to advance from the original sixty-four fighters, a lot rests on Hoshi Hotaru’s shoulders as he battles the well rounded boxer, Onni Jokinen. Hotaru being a one dimensional submission fighter would be crazy if he decided to strike with Jokinen, so the game plan is obviously simple, take the fight down to where he has the advantage and go home with an arm. Jokinen on the other hand has decent BJJ, and might be able to hang on and avoid trouble if he gets taken down. Another issue is the experience, Hotaru comes in with an extensive amateur background, while Jokinen is new to fighting in front of crowds, and you might wonder if this will have an impact on the fight. All in all, this is an exciting matchup between a striker who will surely get the KO if the fight remains standing, and a submission expert who will probably get a submission if he gets the fight to the ground.

"Diplomi-Pakottaja" Calle Pajander vs. Masakatsu Sato

It seems that Sato has been working on his ground game and rightfully so, his opponent Pajander is an outstanding wrestler and will not have problems taking him down, but if Sato can get up and hammer Pajander’s legs with low kicks, he might be able to stop the takedowns later in the fight for long enough to hit one of his thunderous high kicks to end the fight. But Pajander’s wrestling might prove to be too good for Sato as he is both a good takedown artist and is able to utilize the Greco-roman clinch through his wrestling background, Pajander is coming in the favorite in my book, but Sato cannot be overlooked as he has knockout power and can maybe use his newfound BJJ skills to avoid spending too much time on his back.

"Viva" Vinny Vegas vs. "The Last Hope" Ulrich Von Lichtenstein

After ending the first round in a draw, Ulrich Von Lichtenstein’s wrestling proved to be his winning point in the rematch, as he managed to lay on top of his opponent for the majority of the fight awarding him the decision victory. It’s unknown if Vinny Vegas will be as easy to take down, as his wrestling has improved a lot prior to this fight, if he is taken down however he might be in deep waters since his ground skills are less than impressive. His last opponent Vegas’ opponent had an iron chin, Lichtenstein however has a weaker chin, so landing a big right hand might be Vegas’ only hope to victory in this fight as Lichtenstein comes in the favorite.

Alphons "The Cardinal" Draclau vs. Cristiano Halo

In his last fight it seemed like Halo’s Brazilian Jiu Jitsu brown belt scared his opponent away from his strong point, being the ground game, but in this fight he might have the same happen as he faces off against another wrestler in Alphons Draclau. It looks like Draclau is planning to go away from his strong point, the ground game, and instead try to stand and trade with the Muay Thai expert in Halo. Halo who won his last fight with a myriad of kicks, and he might be able to repeat this in his next fight as it seems like Draclau is outgunned in a standup war.

Paul "The Apex" Martin vs. Mitch Heisenberg

In his last fight, Paul Martin was able to dominate with his ability to decide where and when the fight takes place, in this fight however he faces off against the brutal kicker in Mitch Heisenberg, and Martin will surely look to his strong point, the wrestling, to take Heisenberg down and pound him out as he doesn’t pose any significant threat on the ground unlike Ultimate Warrior who was a brown belt. Heisenberg has improved his wrestling since his last fight, as he is obviously worried about being taken down, if he is able to stand with Martin for long enough, he should be able to land one of his devastating high kicks to end the fight.

Ronny "Rånniæn" Bruvik vs. Kid Buu

A lot is unknown about Ronny Bruvik, as his last fight was a no contest he is the only man in the tournament who has yet to fight, but the Norwegian wrestler does not seem like he wants to go to the ground, instead he might look to engage in the clinch with the Kid Buu, but judging from Buu’s last fight, this might be a bad idea, because if he gets the chance to land some knees to the body Bruvik might slow down considerably if the fight goes for a while. If Buvik chooses to use his wrestling to avoid the clinch he might have better luck as he seems to have the better standup of the two. Either way this fight seems to be primarily a standup battle between the two fighters and surely, whoever has the better game plan will move one step closer to winning the tournament.

Burnt Faceman vs. Mark McGonagle

This fight comes down to one thing, the wrestling, Faceman is desperate to avoid a ground battle as his BJJ is lackluster to say the least, and when compared to McGonagle he might as well tap once taken down, because getting taken down in this fight is almost synonymous of losing for Faceman. But he has a better wrestling pedigree, and on his feet McGonagle offers to effective offense, so if Faceman can keep the fight standing he will surely win.

"The Reaper" Grimly Fiendish vs. Kichiro Takaki

In his last fight Fiendish was sloppy with his wrestling, as he desperately tried to get the fight down to the ground against the world class striker, Jesus Christ. This time he is up against another striker, this time in the kick boxer Kichiro Takaki. Takaki fought a similar style wrestler in his last fight, and was able to chop away his legs quite nicely landing sixty-five leg kicks which definitely took away the power of his takedowns. If Takaki is able to kick away Fiendish’ sprawl he will win, but if he gets taken down he might be in a world of hurt as Fiendish packs some vicious ground and pound.

Once again I'm Jack Walian and you have been reading Blitzkrieg unleashed's second and last part of my preview of The Ultimate Manager II round two.
